MONTE CARLO: Richard Gasquet, Tomas Berdych and David Ferrer were placed in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters Tennis Tournament here on Monday.

On the first day of the tournament, Berdych from Check Republic defeated Feliciano Lopez of Spain 6-3, 6-1, Philip Kohlschreiber of Germany beat Thomaz Bellucci of Britain 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 and David Ferrer of Spain ousted Peter Luczak of Australia 6-2, 6-4.

In other matches, David Nalbandian (Argentin) beat Andreas Beck (German), Nicolas Almagro (Spain) beat Simon Greul (Germany), Richard Gasquet (France) beat Daniel Gimeno-Traver (Spain) and Juan Carlos Ferrero (Spain) eat Marcel Granollers (Spain).
